A VIN verification confirms that the vehicle in front of us matches the paperwork. That means it cannot be done online, over the phone, or from photos — the car has to be here so we can read the VIN off it ourselves. California requires one for any vehicle coming in from another state, and for salvage retention.
Because we do the verification and the registration in the same place, you are not driving across the county to get a form signed and then waiting in a DMV line to use it. One trip, both done.
What to bring
- The vehicle itself — drive it here, it has to be physically present
- The out-of-state title or registration
- Any supporting paperwork you already have
Not sure you have everything? Text us at 805-710-7219 and we will confirm before you drive over.
VIN Verification — common questions
When do I need a VIN verification in California?
Most commonly when registering a vehicle from another state, and for salvage retention. It is also required for certain specially constructed or revived vehicles.
Do I need an appointment for a VIN verification?
No. Drive the vehicle to our Grover Beach office during business hours and we will take care of it.
Can a VIN verification be done online or from photos?
No. A VIN verification requires someone to physically inspect the vehicle and read the VIN off it, so the car has to be brought to us. There is no online version of this one.
