A duplicate registration card is printed here at the counter. A duplicate title is requested from the DMV and mailed to you — we prepare and submit the application so it is filled out correctly the first time.
If you are also selling the vehicle, we can start the duplicate title and the transfer together.
What to bring
- For a duplicate title: a completed REG 227 and your registration card
- For a duplicate registration: a completed REG 156
- Your driver license or ID
DMV forms
- REG 227 — Application for Replacement or Transfer of Title

Duplicate Title & Registration — common questions
How long does a duplicate California title take?
The application is submitted the day you come in; the DMV mails the title to the registered owner. A duplicate registration card, by contrast, is printed here immediately.
Can I sell my car if I lost the title?
Yes. A REG 227 lets us request the duplicate title and process the transfer to the buyer at the same time.
